Raking Leaves is a Great Family Activity

This guest post from Lenny Mcknight

Fall is here again, and it's time to get the yard ready for the season. As much as my family loves to look at all the leaves outside on the ground, it's not a good idea to leave them there for too long. If you do, you risk them staying adhered to the ground until the springtime, because the snow will come and freeze, covering them up and making them impossible to rake.

So last Saturday, the kids and I set out to tackle the yard. We took some trash bags outside, set the home security alarm from www.ALLHOMESECURITY.com, and spent the entire day outside raking and making big piles of colorful, crunchy leaves. Of course, they had to jump in the first few piles, and I even joined them in a jump when we had made a particularly large pile. So after we had raked the leaves again, we then bagged them up and set them out for the next day's trash pickup.

When we were all done outside, we went back in and made a round of steaming hot chocolate. The kids had a great time, even adding in a few marshmallows each. We sat around and laughed about our day together, and planned out how we will carve our pumpkin this year. Raking leaves will definitely always be one of my favorite fall activities.

Popcorn

I just mentioned to my husband that popcorn sounded pretty good. He is a great guy and took the hint. He got up and made the snack of popcorn and M&Ms. That is a favorite for us but we don't make it much. Tonight we are going to enjoy it though. If you haven't tried it, you should.

John Deere Mower

John Deere Tractor as our grandson Emry would call it! He and Grampa had the best time riding around on the mower. The farm life is a great one for kids. Kids of all sizes! :)

Fall Colors

It is definitely feeling like fall out there today! The colors of fall are magnificent however! Our grandchildren totally enjoy romping in the fallen leaves. The wind has picked up and the chill is in the air.

Depuy Lawsuit

There are so many today that are struggling with health issues. It may be joint replacements, cancer or other types of illness. The majority of us put our trust in our doctors and medical community. There can still be concerns that arise. In August of 2010 the DePuy Orthopedics company (owned by Johnson & Johnson) announced a recall on hip replacement systems. Their reasoning was that there was a large number of individuals who seemed to be suffering greatly following their hip surgeries. They were having severe swelling and pain. The attorneys at O’Hanlon, McCollom & Demerath understand that this may not be your fault and see that this may be due to a defective DePuy hip implant. This experienced and well educated staff are willing and ready to assist you with your concerns. You can contact them and discuss a possible Depuy lawsuit/liability claim.

Late Meal

It was sort of a late supper for us last night. We decided on just ordering from the local Chinese restaurant instead of making a meal. It tasted good and we have left overs. I suppose we get something from there about once a month. We are somewhat limited on choices for food in our town. We really need another good sit down restaurant.

Twitter

I don't know much about Twitter but it sure is popular. I am not planning on getting an account right now because I don't know enough about the whole thing. Maybe I will try to learn more and then start my own Twittering. Time will tell I guess. It took me quite awhile to start on facebook too but now I am glad I started.

Strong Men!

While out working on my son's farm last weekend the guys decided they would move a smaller building from it's foundation. It was much heavier then it appeared. Three of them worked to carry it to a new location. My grandson watched with amazement. They did a great job!!

Adult Acne Treatments

In raising three children we came across some health issues. One of our children dealt with adolescent acne. I have since known others that have dealt with acne also. There was a women who through out her pregnancy needed some adult acne treatments. Her skin was affected greatly. Years later her skin has cleared up and she no longer has a problem. It can be a hard thing to deal with if you are the one with the acne.

Best Face Moisturizer

Recently my daughter and I were discussing the process of aging. She had shared with me that her husband was asking about what might be the best face moisturizer on the market. His job takes him outdoors and in the sun quite a bit. He is young and this may be a great time to care for his skin with positive results. It's never to early to start.

Under Eye Cream

When I was younger I found my skin to be tighter and smoother. In my thirties that began to change. That was when I started to research under eye cream and other types of skin care products. I have learned that sun exposure only intensifies the wrinkle process. I have tried to guard myself from such exposure, but I do still enjoy sun bathing even thought I know it's not good for me. We all have our addictions I guess.

1st Dental Visit!

Our grand daughter Kaelyn recently had her first dental visit. She's not quite 3 yrs old yet. She did such an awesome job! They were able to polish and floss her teeth. We don't see that too often. Great Job Kaelyn!!

A scare at the state fair

Guest post written by Patty Howell

I've always been a little obsessed with horror movies and TV shows that are in the horror genre like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but it's another thing when I see that stuff in person. Like I can't stand haunted houses or scary rides, which really surprised my kids last year at the state fair.

I should have known that taking my kids to the state fair one year would make them think that they had to go back to it every year after that, because my kids think they have to go again this year. So I was looking up and ordering tickets online a few weeks ago when I saw www.cleartvbundle.com/direct_tv_bundle.html and ended up reading all of it and switched over our internet service to it.

Fast forward to this past weekend when we went to the state fair this year, my youngest had magically forgotten how scared I was when we went in the haunted house ride last year. But she really wanted to go again this year so I went in it and I think that I squeezed her hand more than she squeezed mine.

Dream Car

If I had a choice of dream car it would probably be an older Chevrolet Chevelle. I think a 1969 would be to one I would want. The new Camaros are very nice too but they might be a second choice. Bill's brother had one many years ago. It was a very nice car. It was quite the car back then as I remember. There are many nice cars but the Chevelle would be the one for me.

Night Light

A neighbor of ours has a motion type night light on the front of their house. I think that is a great idea. We do have a light out front that can be turned on by a switch but to have it come on automatically would be great. I think I will have Bill check in to getting one installed.

Bullion

As the stock market continue to fluctuate, we find that many are uneasy about where to invest their money. They have watched as their funds have disappeared and not willing to risk losing more. The United States Gold Bureau is there and willing to assist you in the purchase of gold, silver and other precious metals. For many years gold bullion has been known for great purchasing power. It can give a feel of security during a shaky economy. Gold and silver can be bought in a pure bullion cast called an ingot. This form is conveniently shaped and sized for purchase. If you are looking to improve your financially portfolio, this may be what you are looking for.

Big Mower

Our son and daughter-in-law recently bought a house. With the house came tons of storage and a John Deere mower. It is what our grandson calls his tractor. It is a big one too. The other day Bill took our grandson for a ride around the yard and I don't know who enjoyed it more. They both had fun.

The peace on demand movies have brought to my life

Guest post of the week by Fletcher Peterson

I was complaining about the irritation of going to the movie place, dealing with the teenage staff, and wading through the junk to get a movie. To top it off they keep raising the price. It is darn close to the price of a theater movie ticket just to rent a movie now days. My friend told me about the magic of on demand movies. I had never heard of it. To rent a movie without the hassle and irritation and time spent, it costs the same as a rental. It was too good to be true. But, I checked it out myself and found that watching movies on demand on satellite television from this site is a must. Everyone should try this out. It is the equivalent of not using cell phones or microwaves when the technology is there. I don't miss having to return movies, the aggravating gum popping of the cashier, or the line of youngsters running around crashing into the displays. It has truly cut out a lot of time and aggravation. I love to watch movies on demand with my husband. We can skip the stress argument we would have at the store due to the environment and discuss movie selection in a reasonable tone of voice in our comfortable living room.

Small Injury

Over a week ago Bill was working in the garage. He was using a utility blade to cut a plastic light cover for the basement when apparently the blade attacked him. At least that is what it looked like. He came in the house bleeding profusely. Well anyway, he didn't go have it stitched and now it is still an open wound. He has super glued it shut several times and bandaged it but with the bandage over the cut, it has stayed too soft to heal. I told him right after it happened that he needed stitches but did he listen? You know the answer to that.

Best weight loss supplements

As we grow older many of us find that we experience many bodily changes. Weight being one huge factor. What are the best weight loss supplements? Who has the best exercise program out there today? Are diet pills a safe and effective way to lose those unwanted pounds? So many questions. I guess each individual needs to find what works best and is healthiest for them personally. They may even need to check with a doctor first.

Weight loss supplement reviews

There are so many people today concerned with weight loss. My husband and I are no different. As we grow older we find it easier to gain then to lose. It's like an up hill battle. We find ourselves reading weight loss supplement reviews and researching new ways to approach the issue. We continue to try new ways to succeed.

Las Vegas

We recently spent a week in Las Vegas. The old sign brought back memories of years past. We took our kids there almost 15 years ago now. Boy, time sure does fly. It was a lot of fun going back.

The Property Shop - My Favorite Real Estate Themed Television Show

The Author of this post is Freddy Savage

You may not know Tatiana Londono, but you should. She's a former Realtor who's made the daring jump into brokering and has done it with an enormous splash. Now she's taking on the big boys: that's right, the top real estate agencies head to head in order to build an empire. For fans of the American Dream, of immigrant stories and the drug kingpins, Tatiana Londono's story is a tantalizing tale that shows how life can imitate art.

Tatiana is spicy, gutsy, and many other adjectives that are typically used to describe Mexican food. While all our own lives are filled with quotidian boredom, we can all live vicariously through Tatiana as she tackles the beasts of real estate. As a full-time sassy girl and mother of two, Tatiana must handle the pressures of being a dominant woman and manage the feminine complaints of her cuckold husband. I watched captivated as I imagine myself living her dynamic life as she maneuvers through the vagaries of real estate chaos. There is no doubt in my mind that someday the Tatiana Londono agency will be one of the greatest television based real estate conglomerates in the world, as well as the only one, but that is just a mere technicality.

The Property Shop is shown on HGTV, which is available through the basic package on satellite TV from directstartv.com.

Apple Orchard

We had so much fun on Saturday going with our grandchildren to an Apple Orchard/Pumpkin Patch. They had so much for kids to do! There were inflatable bubbles, a huge slide, story time, petting zoo, train rides, pony rides, puppies, mazes, pumpkin patch, food and more. It was a great time!

Almost doomed family visit

Guest post written by Beatrice Swiger

This year my husband offered to let his sister throw their parents' anniversary party at our house and I am already regretting it.

Our kitchen was kind of a mess for a while. We started renovations on it and had to stop for a while when money was tight. My husband didn't think about that when he agreed to have the party at our house so I knew that I would have to deal with it more. I visited Www.Homeproimprovement.Com and got some people to pick up the project where the others left off.

Once I got a quote on it I also had them put in an island. It ended up coming together beautifully and we're hosting the party next week.

I'm just hoping it will all go smoothly and no one messes up my nice new kitchen. The last time that we hosted a party, some of the kids ended up dropping some of my casserole dishes and they went everywhere all over the kitchen.

The kids were home a couple of weeks ago and Grampa decided to take Emry to the park for a while. He loves the swings! They had a lot of fun! :)

Cigar Auctions

Growing up my dad enjoyed smoking. He had a machine that he could roll his own cigarettes. There was always a fancy looking ashtray that set on a pedestal. He also enjoyed cigars. I actually didn't mind the smell of those. I wonder if he ever purchased cigars from the cigar auctions. I guess there are a variety of types and smells.

Cameras

With time technology continues to advance. I remember one of our first cameras. The kind that still took film. We would waste so many pictures. Now with the digital cameras we are able to pick and choose. Delete the pictures we don't want to keep without wasting expensive film. We have also purchased numerous camera bags, lenses and even a printer. Recently we had a huge family celebration. We found that a tripod sure came in handy.

Polaris ATV

As our grand children get older there may be bigger and better toys for them to play with. My oldest son now has an acreage and there would be plenty of room for a Polaris ATV. I'm sure we would have to monitor the use of such a machine, but I know that the kids would love it! I guess we'll have to see what time brings. There are so many choices available. Which one to pick??? Hummmmm....

Injured

Well, as my husband was trying to complete another project, he sustained an injury. The project was replacing the light covers in the basement. The pieces were too big so they had to be cut down a bit. In this process Bill sliced the side of his pointing finger with a utility knife. The knife won for sure. He came in the house with blood dripping from his finger. I suggested that he go to the doctor but he decided to dress it at home. I have been helping with the bandaging since then. Today he put some super glue over the area to help hold it together. I am sure it will be fine although it did look bad.

Robot Halloween costume

Guest post written by Marie Sawyer

One of my son's favorite things to do during play time is act and talk like a robot. It can get a little annoying after a while when I ask him some questions and he answers them all in his little robot voice, but I let him do it anyway. So he of course wants to dress up as a robot for Halloween this year.

But I think that this is actually going to be a pretty easy costume to make. I've been looking up tips for making a robot costume with direct tv internet bundle and have found some really great ones. Also, I don't think that I'm even going to have to go to the store to buy anything because we already have the stuff laying around the house and in the garage.

I'm going to take a cardboard box and cut arms for his head and arms to stick out of it. Then i'm going to spray paint it silver of course and use some buttons and other little things to make robot knobs on it.

60th!

We recently held a 60th celebration for my parents! It was such a wonderful time! Almost all the family was present. Some who were there had to leave early so they didn't make it for the group picture... It's very difficult to get family all together and I was so happy for the turnout!

Bullion

Many of us have been watching the stock market these past couple of years. There are those like us that have lost one third of our investments over this time. I know of people who have decided to hold off on retirement due to the economies present situation. The United States Gold Bureau may be able to help with this problem. They can assist you in the purchase of gold bullion, silver and other precious metals. They make it easy and convenient for delivery of their product. As an investment precious metals can be purchasing power. It may be something worth checking out and possibly doing.

Leaves

The leaves are changing color already. I don't want fall weather yet. I like summer and would like to see more of it. I know that summer is really over but after fall comes winter and that season is my least favorite. Do you ever wonder why you live in the area that you do? Is it because you grew up there or is that where you work? I often wonder why I live in a climate where we have so much cold weather. I probably won't move away so I will just put up with the changes.
