Fashion

I saw on MSN some of the latest fashions for fall. Bright colors are in. Yellow, berry, green, ultra violet, electric blue and more. To stay within your fashion budget there are a few tips. Before you run off to the mall be sure to have a budget in mind that is attainable for you personally. How much are you willing to spend on those new shoes or do you even really need them? Is it in your monthly budget to spend for them at all? What can you afford? You don't want to get home and feel quilty about your purchase. Be a happy and a smart shopper.

Acne Treatment Pills

As I was raising my children I found that each one of them was quite different. Each child excelled in a certain subject in school. They had unique and diverse interests also. When it came to the teen years, they each dealt with acne to some degree. My one son struggled with the issue a little bit more. There came a time when he was using acne treatment pills as well as a cream. Thank goodness those years have passed and all is well, but it can be a difficult time for some.

Funerals

As we grow older so do others around us. Yes, I know that makes perfect sense, but what changes is this. You find that you are attending more and more funerals. Our friends, loved ones and acquaintances are passing away. There have been three funerals in the past three weeks. My mother had a funeral last week. She has now lost all of her family in the generation above her. Isn't that something? That would seem strange, but I guess that is the natural way of events. It's sad to see so many young people who are losing their lives due to illness, accidents and other reasons. That just shouldn't be.

Christmas Dinner Recipes

Well, Fall is here and Christmas is right around the corner. The days fly by and before we know it the holiday season will be upon us. I am planning to have my family and extended family at my home this year for the Christmas holiday. I am starting to think about some Christmas dinner recipes. What might be good to serve this year? I will have to ponder on that a bit.

Ike

Isn't it something how destructive the whether can be? I recently had a friend send me some pictures of the devastation that Hurricane Ike left in it's path. Galveston Island, Texas was hit pretty hard. Not only were there issues with flooding, but also with fires that they could not get too.

Steam Cleaner

Today we had a flooring man here putting in tile. It actually took him two days to finish. After he had left I realized the mess that was before me. Grouting can leave a lot of dust and dirt. I started with the walls and worked my way down to the floors. I thought it sure would be nice right now to have a steam cleaner. They are chemical free and can leave that sanitized feeling when you're done. I may have to look into one of those.

LA

My youngest son recently took a business trip to Los Angeles, California. He and two co-workers had a week of training in programing robots. While visiting, they did a little bit of site seeing. They traveled up to the Hollywood area and saw the Chinese Theater. They stopped into a unique restaurant for supper and then took in the sites right before them. There were several people dressed up and entertaining on the streets. It sure wasn't like home.

Contact Lenses

Growing up I didn't need to wear glasses. I never really gave it a second thought. Then I got up into my 40's and suddenly I wasn't seeing everything clearly anymore. With my arms stretched out as far as I could get them, I was still having difficulty in seeing. It was time. I finally went and got my glasses. Now I am thinking about contact lenses. My husband has them and they are great for outdoor activities and more. I may look into that soon.

How They Grow

Our grandkids, Kaelyn and Emry are 10 months old already. They sure have grown. It is amazing how much little ones understand at this age. They are such good babies too. I know I am biased, but they are great! It is fun to see them stand by things and let go in an attempt to stand on their own. It will be very soon that they will be walking. I remember when our kids were little and they would run through the house coming so close to counter top corners and things. It was scary to watch but they survived.

School

It is back to school for the kids here in town. Many of them start their day by heading to the YMCA where they can play in the gym or just chill before school. It is almost like a daycare of sorts. Some of these kids actually sleep on the chairs as they wait. I feel sorry for some because they need to get there quite early since they are dropped off by working parents. It's sure too bad that they can't be at home in the comforts of their own bed for just a while longer in the mornings. You have to wonder how it might affect their studies.

Zoe

Yesterday Zoe, our dog, got a haircut. Every six weeks or so she goes in to get beautified. She really enjoys going to the groomer. They treat her very well and she always looks great when they get her done. She knows the place and gets excited as we pull up to the business. Apparently she is very good for them, or so we are told. I am glad we have a groomer that she likes to go to. I wish that every dog could be treated as well as Zoe. The world would be a better place.

Day Off

Bill got up early this morning to go to the Y. He had taken the day off because we are having a new back splash installed today. While he waited for the crew to get here he mowed the yard. The grass was a bit damp but it really didn’t matter. It looks great. He keeps up on the yard and I am glad that is his job and not mine. He does a very nice job of it. Now for the back splash. Hopefully they get a lot accomplished today.

New Curtains

Recently I bought new curtains for the addition. They are the long ones that hang to the floor. I noticed them as we watched some of the HGTV shows. They look very nice and I might put some in a bedroom too. They seem to add a nice touch to the space. Bill likes them too which is always a plus. It's amazing how some small touches make such a difference. Try a new look for yourself. It may brighten your day.

Corn

It is about time to find some corn to have on hand for the squirrels. We usually get some from local farmers and store it up for the winter. Right now we are totally out and the squirrels have to go elsewhere to find corn. We enjoy watching them from our window. They don't seem to mind us either. I never realized how they will take a small kernel of corn and plant it in the ground. Then later on they will find that small little piece and retrieve it. It's amazing to watch them.

Presidential Dollars

Why does it seem that there are not enough hours in a day? Life just seems to get busier all the time. Well, I have found that one thing that can really help is online shopping. It saves me time and money. I can waste an entire day just looking for a certain item and now with the internet I don't even have to leave home. CSN the Cable Shopping Network is a wonderful online resource. They carry a variety of unique collectable items. There reputation is impeccable and the staff is friendly and experienced. Click in and browse their vast collection of products such as presidential dollars and more. You won't be disappointed.

YMCA

Bill gets a lot of use of our local YMCA. He goes there five times a week. I used to go also but now mainly use an elliptical machine at home. It is easier for me to get my workouts done at home. He enjoys the Y and he has lots of friends that go there too. It is a very nice facility and it is close to our house which makes it even better.

Trimming Trees

This weekend Bill and Scott are going to trim some trees. It is a good time of year to do it I think. Scott came by yesterday to pick up a chainsaw and electric cord. I hope they can get done what they want to. It is a big job but I think they enjoy doing that kind of work. Although, I know they would rather golf. Maybe they can do that too.

Galveston

About fifteen years ago we decided we would take a trip down to Galveston Texas. Our family was younger then and it's a trip that our children will always remember. Our oldest son and his wife went there for their honeymoon. I think it is so sad how hurricane Ike has come through that area, destroying everything in it's path. Whether is a powerful thing. Water causes so much damage. I just hope that they can pick up the pieces and restore that wonderful island.

Laptop

Do you own a laptop computer? We have had one for a few years now. It was recently broken down for a while and we had to have it worked on. It was missed greatly. We tend to use it daily. Well, now it is beginning to shut down by itself after a short while. It is like it over heats and then just shuts off. My husband has actually set it on the air conditioning vent to cool it off. I'm not sure why it is acting this way. I do enjoy a laptop, but they don't seem to last very long. Give them about a three year life span.

Dog Grooming

We own a Bichon. Her name is Zoe and she is about seven years old now. She is a great dog! She is starting to show her age some. We find ourselves taking her for a grooming about every six weeks. If we don't, she gets to looking quite scraggly. I have to be very careful about talking about her haircut in front of her. As soon as I mention a hair cut and going to see Stephanie (her groomer), she gets all excited and wants to go out to the car. Today was no different. If you are a dog owner, you know how important it is to take care of your dog. It breaks my heart when I see those who do not.

Loveland, Colorado

Just over five years ago our previous Pastor and his family moved to our community. We were thrilled to have them and enjoyed the time that they spent with us. Last winter they let us know that they were going to be moving on. We were surprised and disappointed, but knew that they must follow their calling. We have recently heard that they have taken a position in Loveland Colorado. How exciting for them and what a beautiful place to live. We will miss them greatly and our prayers are with them.

Funeral

Recently my sister's mother-in-law passed away. We attended the visitation and funeral. This woman was awesome! She was such a great Christian women. If you spoke with her for any length of time, she would share her love for the Lord. The funeral was a great tribute to that fact. With glorious music and many testimonials, it was a very nice funeral. She was a wonderful woman and will be missed by many.

Travel

Our son Jake has been working for his company for a little over a year. In that time he has had some nice travel opportunities. He spent a week in Mexico, passed up a trip to France and just got back from Los Angeles. I just heard that he will be in Chicago two different times next month. Wow, what a job. He really enjoys what he is doing and all the great perks that go along with the job. He works hard and has been learning a lot. He has even taught some computer classes at work. All of our kids are doing well. I am thankful for that.

Night Shifts

Have you ever had to work night shifts? I have been very fortunate in not having to work them, but Bill has many many times. In fact, with his previous job he would work two weeks of days and then two weeks of nights. We did that routine for over twenty years. It became pretty common place and I am glad he doesn't have to do that any more. I know that some people enjoy working nights, but we weren't those people. More power to you if you can do it. As we grow older we find it more difficult to stay up that late.

External Hard Drive

We purchased our first computer many years ago now. We were told when buying it that we would never be able to use up the space it supplied. Well, that wasn't true, because within a year we were looking for an external hard drive to allow us greater space and extend the life of our computer. It worked and we have since bought several different types of computers. It's always nice to know that you can add hard drive space.

Marketing

My son-in-law graduated with his BA in sales and marketing. He has always enjoyed holding a job that included some type of sales. Over the past year he has been searching for jobs in marketing. He was blessed with a very nice position that will allow him better benefits as well as pay and all in the field of marketing. He's very pleased.

Taco Pie

The other night we made taco pie for supper. The recipe calls for taco seasoning, ground beef, cheese and refried beans in between layers of flat tortilla shells. It is a very good recipe. You can add some taco sauce as well. We hadn't made it for a long time and it just hit the spot. It is not a difficult dish to make. I don't remember where we got the recipe, but it is definitely worth having. Try it sometime for your family. I know our kids all love it.

Dealing With Headaches

If anyone knows something about headaches, it's me! I've struggled with headaches for many years....most of which have me in bed, or wishing I was there. I feel for anyone who has to deal with an Acute Headache and migraine headaches....it's something that can leave you unable to do anything without feeling nauseous. Recently I had the worst headache I think I've ever had. I had already taken the maximum dose of my prescription and knew that I could not take anymore. I was to the point of almost asking my husband to take me to emergency...but then knew there was nothing they could do for me as I had already taken my full dose. Now, looking back....that is probably what I could have done. Why you ask?

Sunshine

It was just beautiful outside today! These are the days I love! The temperatures were perfect, the sun was shinning and the sky was clear. I saw people out running, bike riding and children playing. I would have enjoyed taking a stroll up town. It was back to work for me, so that didn't happen. There were many coming in through out the day commenting on how nice it was. I told them to go out and enjoy what was left of it and they smiled. Soon fall will be upon us and the chilly temps will arrive. The early mornings and late evenings are already beginning to cool down. Summer goes way to fast.

Whining Dog

About this time at night our dog Zoe starts whining. She likes to go outside so she can have a treat when she comes back in. We sometimes tell her no and she will usually go lay down until the next time she whines. It is pretty much a schedule for her in the evening. Tonight it is a bit rainy looking so she might not want outside as much. She is very good but can be a pain sometimes too. We're still very glad to have her as part of the family.

Travel

We have enjoy traveling. Bill and I decided to take a few days off and go away and relax. We went to a near by large city. Actually it is our state capital. We shopped, dined and went to a movie. There is so much to offer down there. Every kind of food is available. It has grown so much in the past 20 years. There is always something down there to see and do. I love trying different foods and we don't often take in a show. We saw the new batman movie. We thought it was pretty entertaining. Your typical batman movie. It was nice to get away, but the time goes way to fast.

Great American Seafood Cook Off

If you enjoy wonderful seafood, you just may want to check into the www.greatamericanseafoodcookoff.com website. There you will find some great seafood recipes using all different types of fish and shrimp. This seafood cook off is held in Louisiana where chef's come and bring their own recipes for delicious seafood fun. I visited the website and checked out the top 5 seafood recipes and great chefs. These dishes had to include two mystery ingredients, either Southwest Airline Peanuts or a brew from Michelob Brewing Co. They also had to be easy and simple with a healthy flare to it. Along with that the recipe also had to include all five of the food groups and be easily prepared by any home chef. When looking, I found it easy to choose which of the recipes I would like to give a try. The Shrimp and Andouille Cassoulet sounds wonderful. It comes from the state of Louisiana, by Chef Brian Landry. With shrimp being a favorite in my house, the added ingredients, I feel, make it a hit. I think it might be fun to also add angle hair pasta to this great seafood dish. I think that domestic seafood is a plus when cooking. It gives that fresh and local taste that most people enjoy. You can know the waters it comes from, how they've been fed and the freshness of the seafood. Check out this website and choose and or vote for your favorite! You may be the winner of a trip to New Orleans prize package!
