Laptop

We just arrived home from the weekend away and decided to bring up our computers. I had a few posts to type and Bill was just going to surf. Well, the laptop isn't working for some reason. That's not good. Our son Jake, just called to say he was back home and now Bill is talking with him about the problem. Jake is very good with computers. I sure hope it isn't anything to serious.

Plasma Mount

Plasma TV's seem to be the latest thing. First our youngest son purchased a 42 inch TV and then he decided he needed something larger. So now he has purchased a 48 inch TV that he would like to place with a plasma mount sometime. He then sold the 42 inch to his sister and his older brother decided to buy a 32 inch TV. My parents also purchased a 42 inch TV. WOW, is it time for us to make the new purchase. We do already own a 52 inch LCD TV. We'll see.

Weekends

Our weekends go so fast. Not that the weekdays don't. We spent Sat and Sun. up at our daughter and son-in-laws. Bill helped Scott with their basement project, while Jenna and had kept people fed and played with Kaelyn our grand daughter. Our younger son Jake, joined us for the weekend also. He loves seeing Kaelyn and is quite the family man. It was a good time, but it went to fast. Time to go sit and chill.

Anniversaries

WOW! I can hardly believe that it has been three years since my two oldest children had gotten married. They were married eight days apart. Now both couples have just celebrated their third Anniversary. Boy, time sure does fly by.

We have been on the go remodeling our home. Along with many changes we are redoing our upstairs bathroom. There are so many beautiful things you can do today. I am partial to the modern look of bar faucets. We actually purchased one for the bathroom and one for the kitchen. I'm excited about the entire process! We click in and link with our children and then can talk and see them at the same time. It is a great way to keep up with watching our grandson grow. They live states away, so we can keep in touch with this amazing technology!

Thunder

Last night we were supposed to get some rain and nasty weather. All we had was dark clouds and a lot of thunder. Zoe, our dog, doesn't like the thunder in her older age. She sometimes hides under things when the weather isn't so good. The yard is surprisingly dry. We have had quite a lot of rain but the soil just soaks it up.

Snack

I know that night time isn't the best time to eat but a snack sounds good right now. I am not sure what we should have. I say 'we' because I am sure I can talk Bill into snacking also. We had supper pretty early tonight so I don't think a little snack would be bad. At least that is what I am telling myself.

Another Week

Another week of work is almost done. Time goes by so quickly but I am glad for the work week to come to an end. Bill enjoys his weekends off too. His plan is to retire in five years. I told him that if he retires, I retire too. He is ok with that. We don't want to wish our life away but we will then have more time to spend doing other things.

Apple Tree Coming Down

We have lived in our home for twenty four years and have watched our trees grow nicely. One is an apple tree and it produces great apples every year. We will be saying goodbye to it in the near future so our garage has a place in our back yard. It will be hard to see the tree go but it has to be. There isn't enough room for both garage and tree.

Fireplace

We are going to have a fireplace installed in our addition. It will be a gas unit along the south wall and have an oak mantel. The fireplace unit is just black metal and can be mounted just about any way we want it to be. It can sit right on the floor or we can raise it up. We can put marble or granite under or just some oak boards. We are not sure how we will do that just yet. The fireplace was delivered today and we are picturing how it will look when completed. A local cabinet maker will build the mantel and his work is fantastic.

Air Tools

For many years my husband enjoyed receiving new tools from his dad for Christmas, Birthdays etc... Now he enjoys shopping for them himself. He looks at air tools, cordless and electric power tools and more. He is always finding something new he would like to purchase. They do make great gifts for him and the boys. They are always needing something new also.

Jakes' Car

Jake is loving his new car. I say new car, but it isn't actually new. It is new to him though. The car is a 2004 Mazda RX8 with very low miles. On his way to Kansas City last week the check engine light came on. Jake checked with the dealership where he bought the car and was told he should bring it in and they will fix it for free because it is under warranty. They said that even if it needed a new engine they would take care of fixing it at no cost to Jake. Wow, that is great. Bill thinks that the repair will be a simple thing. Jake left the car with the dealership this afternoon and is driving a loaner until his is fixed. To top it off, they gave him a brand new car to drive in the mean time.

Chair Rail

We recently painted a wall in the kitchen and I love it. We chose a green paint for the wall and it really looks nice. Now I am having Bill put up some chair rail on that wall also. He stained the boards tonight and tomorrow he'll put the first coat of varnish on them. The wood should really add to the wall. I look forward to the finished product.

Quick Supper

Tonight we are having a quick and easy supper. Bill pulled out some Schwan's frozen fish sticks and mozzarella sticks and popped them in the oven. It is a kind of fend for yourself type supper I guess. I suggested it and Bill agreed. He made some home made pizza last night and he is heating some of that up also. Some nights it is just nice to make something quick and easy.

The Clay County Fair is held in Spencer Iowa. It is not a big town, but the fair does draw a big crowd. They seem to bring in some big names for concerts and entertainment of all sorts. This year Mark Lowery is going to be there. He is a Christian comedian. He is very funny and entertaining. I was thinking that maybe we should try to go. We'll have to see.

Auto Air Conditioning

Can you imagine for a moment back to the 1960's when so many vehicles didn't have auto air conditioning. Now if our AC Compressor breaks down, we are beside ourselves. We are so use to having our windows up, being cool and dry. I'm sure glad there are ways to repair an air conditioner if it is needed. I guess I am very spoiled.

Outer Banks

My husband and I love to look for a warm and sunny vacation spot. Now with the Outer Banks rental homes, we can go and stay by the ocean front and relax. For us there is not a more beautiful spot then to sit in the warm sea air and watch all of God's creations. It is a winter get-away and we always look forward to it.

Sadness

What is this world coming too? I was reading and watching the information on the news about a man who had beaten to death a toddler. They say that he pulled off of the road and yanked the little boy out of his car seat and began kicking, slapping and throwing the poor little child. People around who were observing this had called 911 and a few tried to stop the man. It ended up that the police had to shoot the man to get him to stop. How very sad is that? Was he on drugs? Is this world such a mess that people no longer have feelings? What the world needs is Jesus. That poor child never had a chance to live his life.

Beautiful Day

It is a warm sunny day out there. The only problem is that the mosquitoes are so bad that they could carry you away. With all of the flooding and rain that we have had this past spring, it has seemed to hatch a large army of them. I was out watering or trying to water some of my new flowers and plants and I couldn't hardly do it. Mosquitoes have always loved me. If there is one in the room, it will find me. This is the time of year that I ask my family to please not turn on my bedroom light. I don't need one of those buzzing insects in my ear in the night. You know what that's like.

I've been trying new recipes lately. Do you ever get tired of making the same old meals? I know that I do. So, the first night I made a spinach ravioli casserole. It was ok. Bill and I decided that we would use less spinach next time. Not really big fans of spinach. Then tonight I made a sausage hash. It called for browned sausage,chopped onion, pepper, carrots and sliced potatoes. It was very spicy/hot. I thought it was pretty tasty. It was just ok for Bill. I guess the same old meals aren't looking so boring anymore.

Dry Days

Finally! We are getting some much needed dry sunny days. There has been a tremendous amount of flooding across the state this spring/summer. There are cities with over 400 blocks totally flooded out. Thousands of people being evacuated from their homes. Many volunteers helping to sand bag , trying to stop the rivers from flowing over into the city. Roads closed for days. People with out water or electricity for days and so much more. It is really sad to see. Not only all of the devastation with the flooding , but also the tornados that have tore through this state besides. Leaving many homeless and some fatalities. We can only pray for dryer days ahead.

Green Feet

I have written before about how we have to put doggy socks on Zoe after Bill mows the grass. She is pretty much a white dog and if she doesn't have her socks on, her feet will be green. It looks sort of funny but then we need to give her a bath which is not one of her favorite things to do. We have learned to wash her face and head first, using mainly a wash cloth and then clean the rest of her. To keep her little socks on we use rubber bands. Although this works fairly well it would be nice to have even a better system. If you can think of a better plan, please let me know.

Yard Work

We have been enjoying time spent in our yard doing some planting and landscape jobs. I was hesitant to pull out our old shrubs but now am so glad that we did. It is amazing how much different it looks. I love it! We have had steady rains so we haven't had to water too much. Bill mows the grass regularly and the yard looks great.

Dog Socks

After Bill mows the grass it makes it hard for Zoe to go outside because her feet get all green. We have little socks to put on her feet. I think they are little baby socks. We put them on her feet and use rubber bands to hold them on. It makes a big difference because she can come in and not be green.

White Squirrel

Have you ever seen or even heard of a white squirrel? Scott and Jenna had one in their back yard the other day. It was being followed by some gray squirrels. I did a Google search of white squirrels and found that they are not all that rare. I had never heard of them before but now I have. Hopefully we can get some pictures of it soon.
